REFORM AND RESULTS: WITH CHANGE ON VOTERS’ MINDS,
CITY GOP SEEKING CANDIDATES WITH FRESH IDEAS
ALBANY - With voters sending a clear message in recent elections that they’re no longer willing to return career politicians to office if they don’t produce real results, the time is right for newcomers with fresh ideas to win seats on the Albany County Legislature.
“Talk isn’t good enough, what people want is results,” said Gregory Fields, chairman of the City of Albany Republican Committee, which is actively recruiting candidates to challenge Democrat incumbents this fall.
Fields said since Democrats have long controlled both Albany county and city government, they should be held accountable for their record of high property taxes, gunfire on city streets and metal detectors at the doors of schools.
“As the old saying goes: ‘If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem.’ Voters really need to ask themselves which category their current legislator falls into,” Fields said.
The City Republican Committee recently sent a open invitation to nearly 1,000 city residents encouraging them to consider a run for office. Fields said the invitation went to so many people because the Committee wanted to open up the process and attract newcomers with fresh ideas and innovative solutions.
“People who want reform need to understand that change won’t come from those who are part of the current system. Change will happen when we join together on election day and send a clear message to those in office that what they've been doing isn’t good enough,” Fields said.
“We want them to do more, we want them to work harder, and above all else, we want them to produce results,” he continued. “And, if they don’t, the voters will find someone who will.”
City residents wishing to run for a seat on the county legislature as a candidate of the Republican Party should send a letter of interest to: The City of Albany Republican Committee, P.O. Box 7177, Albany, NY 12224.
